But it forms part of the local collective memory and we love it! It explains that in the Mercadal neighborhood there was a convent of nuns who were not the most devoted of their kind. However, among them was a novice with a true religious vocation who criticized the life the sisters led. To stop having to hear her reproaches, the other nuns locked her up in an underground cell of the covent for many years, until, as a result of the dark and humidity, she turned into a crocodile. However, thanks to her devotion, from her back emerged two amazing butterfly wings in beautiful colors, transforming her forever into La Cocollona." Book a flight to IBIZA, yeap you heard it right, book the flight to Ibiza, but ditch it for the gorgeous and serene Formentera.&nbsp; From the airport take bus: Route 10 to the Port. Once in the port, you can go to the Ferry terminal and book yourself the ticket. You have several price options with different boats at different speeds. I booked the one for about 46 euro return which was taking 30 min.&nbsp;</div><h2 class="wsite-content-title">Getting around</h2><div class="paragraph">The best way to get around is by car. Granada Cathedral&nbsp;</h2><div class="paragraph">"Unlike most cathedrals in Spain, construction was not begun until the sixteenth century, after acquisition of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada from its Muslim rulers in 1492. While its earliest plans had Gothic designs, such as are evident in the Royal Chapel of Granada by Enrique Egas, most of the church's construction occurred when the Spanish Renaissance style was supplanting the Gothic in Spanish architecture. Foundations for the church were laid by the Enrique Egas starting from 1518 to 1523 atop the site of the city's main mosque; by 1529, Egas was replaced by Diego de Siloe who worked for nearly four decades on the structure from ground to cornice, planning the triforium and five naves instead of the usual three. Most unusually, he created a circular capilla mayor (principal chapel) rather than a semicircular apse, perhaps inspired by Italian ideas for circular 'perfect buildings' (e.g., in Alberti's works). Within its structure the cathedral combines other of the Vitruvian orders of architecture." Alcabaza&nbsp;</h2><div class="paragraph">"Constructed on the ruins of a Roman fortification during the reign of Abd-al-Rahman I, the first Emir of Cordoba, in around 756-780AD, the Alcazaba's original purpose was as a defence against pirates, thanks its commanding position with views over the city, down to the sea and across to Africa. The fortress was rebuilt by the Sultan of Granada, Badis Al-Ziri, from 1057-1063AD, while the fortified double walls that connect the Alcazaba to the neighbouring Castillo de Gibralfaro, over the Coracha ridge, were built by the Nasrid ruler Yusuf I in the 14th century, when most of the inner palace was also refurbished. As a palace, it was home to a number of Moorish rulers. The Alcazaba has a distinct feel from its more famous, younger neighbours, the Alcazar of Sevilla and the Alhambra of Granada. It was already three centuries old when the others were build. After the reconquest, it fell into decay until restoration work began in 1933, and continues slowly today. Yusef 1, Sultan of Granada, enlarged it at the beginning of the 14th century, also adding the double wall down to the Alcazaba. The castle is famous for its three-month siege by the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, which ended only when hunger forced the Malaguenos to surrender. Afterwards Ferdinand occupied the site, while his queen took up residence in the town. Interesting historic fact: this was the first conflict in which gunpowder was used by both sides." The 194,000 sq.ft (18,000 sq.m.) of trencadis were brought in from Valencia, Spain.<br>-&nbsp;The overhanging wing was prefabricated in Seville and shipped to the island in 17 pieces, the largest weighing 60 tons (54,000 kilograms).<br>-&nbsp;The wing was designed to be supported on only five points.<br>-&nbsp;&acirc;&#128;&#139;Geometrically, the roof is constructed from two intersecting cone segments. By contrast, the symmetrical inner shell of the concert hall, which is 50 meters high, is a rotational body, generated by rotating a curve to describe an ellipse. A wedge of approximately 15 degrees has been removed from the center of this body so that its two segments (for acoustical reasons 60 cm thick) form a pronounced ridge. At its uppermost point it supports the sweep of the roof. The body of the auditorium thus contrasts with the smooth curves of the flanking tangential shells, whose exterior surfaces are decorated in coloured broken tile.</div><div class="paragraph">I hope this made you want to check it out!
