After we left Bilbao, we moved to the beautiful mountain area in Asturias and stayed in Berodia (Picos de Europa) for 3 nights.
I will guide you post by post through my wonderful trip through the North of Spain. I'll be stopping night by night in a location and will tell you what we explored from there. First stop 3 nights in Bilbao
The most orange oranges I ever saw and they are everywhere :)
Every year, my parents, my sister and I meet for a long weekend in a spot my mother picks, this year, she wanted to see Valencia so we booked our flights, packed our bags and off we went.
What would you do in Barcelona if it is not the top 10 touristic attractions? Well.....walk around, find your favorite spot of the city and relax
I know it is not ideal and no one would like to visit a place on a rainy day, but here some ideas on how to spend your time and get to love the place if you have the great "luck" of getting there on a rainy weekend.
Explore the Food scene in Madrid
Start with a coffee in a local bar
instead of heading to Starbucks or similar why not go to have coffee where the local people go? :)
took the bus from Madrid for a 5 hours journey to Logroño, although most of it highway once you enter la Rioja region the landscape changes completely. It almost seems like it is preparing you for something GREAT! :)
We reached Logroño quite late so we jumped into the car for another 27 km till a small city called Najera. The city has a very special charm, it gives you the feeling of a very cozy place. It looks to be very typical for the mornings to go at the nearby bar for "un troce de tortilla" and a coffee.
At just 1h and a bit bus trip from Madrid, Segovia is an excellent day trip destination for anyone having some time to spare when visiting Madrid.
Simply go towards the Metro Station Moncloa from where you can buy on the spot your ticket to Segovia. You can go with for example La Sepulvedana and the price of the one way ticket is 7.96 € . There are buses leaving every 30 min so no need to stress :).
I went there on a sunny Sunday in April last year and I had an absolute awesome time.
Once at the train station we stopped to have "breakfast": una caña with a small tapa next to it...good life!
Finishing our breakfast we head towards to the city center which was 200 m away from us but still you could not yet see the amazing aqueduct that the Romans left Spain as a ever lasting impressive structure.
The province of Soria in the region of Castil y Leon is mostly an overlooked destination by most of the people, so overlooked that people of the region started a campaign to promote the tourism in the area:
"...cuesta llegar a ella, pero si existe...y es cierto aquello de que "Soria: ni te la imaginas!"
If you are of those people that love outdoor activities then maybe this would be a very nice place to spend a weekend.
I've been with some friends in October 2014 for a hiking trip over the weekend and I super enjoyed it.
It all started with the breakfast! ~~ Torreznos de Soria
"to be an artist is to believe in life! " ~ Joan Miro
Barcelona is most probably the favorite city of loads of people and so it is also mine. Although never lived there I have been going to Barcelona 5-6 times each year. There is always a good reason to pass by and I intensely love the city.
There are 1 million things I like about Barcelona, and one of them is Joan Miro whose art I only recently discovered.
A Catalan friend of mine recommended to go at the museum but as honestly paintings are not really my thing I decided to go to Camp Nou instead.....but a surprise was waiting for me at the museum of the world renowned football club of Barcelona ... a painting of Joan Miro :)
