There are several reasons why you would want to visit Monteverde. We actually went there for main 2 reasons:
1. for some adrenaline kick - 1590m long zipline
We heard a lot of people talking of how amazing the experience of "flying"/ "hanging" over the rain forest is so we said we should take the chance of being in Costa Rica and book the Tour offered by 100% Adventure.
The Canopy tour was 45$ per person and included:
there are a couple of tours per day
The experience is absolutely amazing and totally recommended. I am not an adrenaline seeker or anything but I really enjoyed a lot this tour. just do it! :) 2. visit the Cloud Forest and see some Hummingbirds
as per National Geographic Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve is "the jewel in the crown of cloud forest reserves". It is quite impressive and you get some very nice views. The hike is not difficult so especially recommended if you did not do Corcovado or similar.
Entrance fee 20$ per adults and 10$ per students. To reach there you have a bus from the city center for 600 colones per person one way. Schedule in November 2015 as per below
The nature is impressive and if not cloudy :P (well you are in a cloud forest) you can have some very nice views. Pay attention to any vibrating noise it means a Hummingbird is around
You can find here the famous bridge that you can see in the pictures around the internet about Monteverde
and of course loads of plants have their home in this cloud forest
