oh, yes! you might hate me, but still I need to write you about all the wonderful Greek food we tried... and if you did not yet try the original Greek salad with Feta cheese, please make sure you reserve a table at the Greek restaurant in your town ;)
The Greek Salad
so simple but still so amazingly delicious, the Greek Salad is perfect for any occasion. Of course in Greece it is not called Greek Salad, but salad :) or village salad. The main ingredient is the Feta cheese ;)
Tzatziki
Made of salted strained yogurt or diluted yogurt and mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt and olive oil, Tatziki is one of the best things out there to eat with your bread.
Saganaki
Saganaki is an appetizer of fried cheese. The cheese used in cheese saganaki is usually graviera, kefalograviera, halloumi, kasseri, kefalotyri, or sheep's milk feta cheese.
Tiropita
Is a Greek layered pastry food in the boerek family, made with layers of buttered phyllo and filled with a cheese-egg mixture ("oe" mix of letters like in German)
Dolmades
Stuffed Grape Leaves (Greek Dolmades) are often served as part of a meze (appetizer) plate. The filling is usually rice, but it can also have minced meat as well.
Moussaka
Moussaka is an eggplant- or potato-based dish, often including ground meat. The recipe varies based on the region.
Melitzanes papoutsakia
Are stuffed eggplants with meat sauce, topped with a rich bechamel sauce and then baked
