Sicily is not easy to reach but we managed. Booked a flight Brussels (CLR) - Trapani and we were ready for our holiday. We are not fond of crowded places so we try to avoid when possible the busy summer season so we opted in this case of May and here is the result. You have a piece of beach in Italy only for yourself! :)
After checking Airbnb for Trapani and for Palermo we ended up staying at Piero's house in Balestrate (which is half way). He runs a business and owns several apartments. I find it hard to rate the place, but I would most probably stay again at his house when I go back to Sicily: clean and location excellent (if you are bothered by load music you should reconsider though as during weekends the bar downstairs has live music till late hours). Here the view from the place.
The beaches
you are basically surrounded by beaches. Truth being told the none are so amazingly beautiful but to be honest i far more loved the fact that we are alone then could just enjoy some beer/preseco and relax then to struggle to find a spot to put the towel on the sand. First beach is 5 min walk from the house. I guess mainly for local people, there is nothing there just the beach.
If you head to the left it is a longer walk, I think we stopped after approx 5 km. but the beach starts way earlier.
The Food
First thing's first, trying out the sweats. If you like almonds (mazripan) and anis this is the place for you
our local bar Why Not was simply awesome. By ordering 5 bears you get the below plate for free you get free food also for one beer but smaller quantity.
Further down there was another ar where we could watch the Champions League final. But after the "snack" at why not we were quite full so we got only a bit of food
the murals
I like street art a lot so anything that can count as it makes we very happy to see around. Here some of the things I spotted in Ballestrate
and some of the architecture
Having Balestrate as our base we went for 2 day trips one to Palermo and one to San Vitolo Capo.
