San Vito Lo Capo is about 1h drive from Balestrate. The beach is popular for the turquoise water and used as vacation beach for loads of families on the island.
The town of San Vito Lo Capo developed around the Main Church (Santuario) that was built around 1450.
It's very interesting to note that this building is rich in architectural elements. In it coexist the slits, the rose window of the facade and balconies, the watchtower and votive niches. Elements of civil construction, military and religious come together in a single building of rare harmony. (Source)
On the way to the town our driver explained us that there are 3 major festivals in San Vito Lo Capo, namely:
a bit afraid of all the crowds that we saw on the beach we took the time for a snack, the Italian way: some caprese, a bruscheton and a plate with ham and cheese at the sea garden beach bar....i am getting hungry now :S
after a delicious "breakfast" we decided to find a free spot and I was extremely happy to actually find a piece of beach just for ourselves
as in Sicily in general, you can feel the Muslim influence also here, which brings a special charm to the city
At the end of several hours on the beach we went back to meet our driver and we drove back to Balestrate. As an overall feeling, it's a nice place to check out and probably even nicer if you have the time to check out the Natural Reserve Zingaro, which at least from pictures looks absolutely amazing
