My best friend and I have this very nice tradition to go to an new place once a year. This year we decided to go for Norway and I must say it was a great idea!We arrived on Thursday 12th of March late evening and left Oslo on Monday 16th of March early morning. In total 3 full days trip. OSL - CITY CENTER We landed on OSL (Oslo Gardermoen Airport) and to reach the city center we took the airport train Flytoget. A single ticket costs 180 NOK (Return 360) till Oslo Central Station (Oslo S) or National Theatre (prices will vary if you need to reach a different station) The trains are every 10 or 20 minutes depending on the hour. Last Train you can get is at 00:50. The airport train has free Wi-Fi.Afterwards we had to take the Metro (T) Ruter for one stop. The price per single (1 h) trip is 30 NOK. A 24h ticket is 180 NOK. DAY 1 We booked the One Day Trip to Bergen with Norway in a Nutshell; you can find the tour here. You can leave and return from several locations around. The return will be with a 7 hours night train. If you just book the seat in the train you don't have to pay extra. Price is 2490 NOK for the trip but if you want a sleeping compartment would be extra 900 NOK. Multi Day option on this line is also possible (all information you need you can find under the link above). There are flights to Bergen as well, but the views you get from the train are spectacular. To collect your ticket from Oslo S you need to arrive 30 minutes before train departure. The trip to Bergen is a mix of train - bus - boat: Here the overview out of Oslo. The Flam Railway is said to be the steepest train in the world. Unfortunately we had to make a small detour due to an avalanche over the rails, but the tour company re-organized everything to ensure that we reach the fjord trip on time. After the boat trip, there is an extreme slow train to Bergen where you would spend about 2-3h depending on when you get to Bergen. If you afford it, I would strongly advise to stay over in Bergen and return the next day, so that you have the chance to see the city during the day. ! FYI -- Night train Bergen - Oslo does not operate on Saturday nights. Sleeping on the train was not very comfortable and actually a bit cold, but it is for 'free' and it makes difference to your budget! :) .. they do give you a thin blanket and some other sleeping "gadgets" to improve your sleep. DAY 2 We took the time to go around Oslo. We did not enter any museums though as the weather was too nice to be inside. Our "Itinerary" was Vigerland Sculpture Park from there tram number 12 to Radhuset - went around the port for a while then went towards Karl Johans gate and then towards the opera. If you get there in the period that the boat to Boygen does not operate you can reach the museums over there via bus 30 till the end of the line. DAY 3 The last day we took the line metro 1 till the end (Frognerseteren) to see the ski jump trampoline Holmenkollen. If you don't plan to ski, then stay in the metro till the end of the line and the walk towards the restaurant there are signs showing you the way or you can ask somebody in the metro, the view is ultra nice. If you want to stay for a drink at the restaurant prepare a lot of money, it is expensive but tasty. When the sun started to set we walked down passed the trampoline and then took the metro back from the Holmenkollen station. CITY CENTER - OSL The night transport during the week seems a bit limited so we walked till National Theatre (probably there are some solutions but we stayed quite close). We took the first train that leaves to the airport at 4:34 and 20 minutes later we were at the airport. Maybe one tip at the end, you can drink tap water, this might save you some Krona :P #ILoveToTravel
