Bicaz Gorge

Connecting Moldova with Transylvania the Bicaz Gorge offers a stunning landscape  and is considered to be one of the most spectacular drives in the country.
Picture
The road along the 8 kilometers of ravines, often in serpentine with rock on one side and a sheer drop on the other side reaches up to the spectacular Rosu Lake at about 980 m altitude.

The gorge is situated between 2 counties, Neamt and Harghita. This is very interesting, as Harghita is one of the counties that is home to mainly Hungarian population and the majority people around the area speak only Hungarian. Here you will be able to buy both local Romanian and Hungarian products.

Lacu Rosu

after a first stop where a lot of merchants sell their products you continue the road till Lacul Rosu (The red Lake). "is the largest barrier lake (natural lake), in the Eastern Carpathians chain in Harghita County, Romania. The name of "Lacul Rosu" comes from the reddish alluvium deposited in the lake by the Red Creek. (Source

take the time to walk around make get into a boat and try some of the local snacks.
Langos are typical Hungarian specialty which is usually eaten with white cheese on top

Going from salty to sweet, you need to try the Kurtos Kolaks you will see that everywhere I go, I chase them. It's a sort of a sweet bread rolled on a wooden stick and baked on charcoal.
If you still have time, walk a bit more to loose the calories you just gained ;)

Bicaz Dam

"is the largest artificial lake on the interior waters of Romania; it was created after the completion of a dam built on the river Bistrita. The dam is located a few kilometers north of the town of Bicaz. [...] The lake is a popular tourist destination in the region, especially in summertime, when visitors can take the ferryboat from the Bicaz port for a short trip on the lake, enjoying the magnificent view of Mount Ceahlau on the west shore."
