Day Trip from Madrid: Segovia

8/28/2015

At just 1h and a bit bus trip from Madrid, Segovia is an excellent day trip destination for anyone having some time to spare when visiting Madrid.

Simply go towards the Metro Station Moncloa from where you can buy on the spot your ticket to Segovia. You can go with for example La Sepulvedana and the price of the one way ticket is 7.96 € . There are buses leaving every 30 min so no need to stress :).

I went there on a sunny Sunday in April last year and I had an absolute awesome time.
Once at the train station we stopped to have "breakfast": una caña with a small tapa next to it...good life!

Finishing our breakfast we head towards to the city center which was 200 m away from us but still you could not yet see the amazing aqueduct that the Romans left Spain as a ever lasting impressive structure.

"Unesco World Heritage–listed Segovia has always had a whiff of legend about it, not least in the myths that the city was founded by Hercules or by the son of Noah. It may also have something to do with the fact that nowhere else in Spain has such a stunning monument to Roman grandeur (the soaring aqueduct) survived in the heart of a vibrant modern city. Or maybe it's because art really has imitated life Segovia-style – Walt Disney is said to have modelled Sleeping Beauty's castle in California's Disneyland on Segovia's Alcázar. Whatever it is, the effect is stunning: a city of warm terracotta and sandstone hues set amid the rolling hills of Castilla and against the backdrop of the Sierra de Guadarrama."  (Lonely Planet)

After walking a bit around the city enjoying the sights all around us we decided to take a culinary break and try one of the local a most famous Segovian dishes " EL Cochinillo" .

They prepare it in several restaunrants and depening on the website you can find different ratings, I ate at Jose Mariarestaurant and I LOVED IT!

We are very lucky as there was a big table next to us and they got the whole cochinillo at the table giving us the perfect chance to take this photo ;) They actually cut it with a plate that's how tender the meat is. Even if you are not a big pork fan the taste of this little piglet is amazing.
With our bellies happy and full we slowly walked towards the train station not before stopping one last time for a " cubata"

At the end I leave you with another spectacular view of the aqueduct.
