As I was telling you before, we tried to stay in a city for more days and have that used for travelling around, it is finally time for Oviedo, a town that left a super positive impression to all of us. Have a look of how we spent our 2 nights here.
But lets start from scratch, we left Berodia and the beautiful Picos de Europa and headed back to the coast this time in Western Asturias in the super cute and colorful city of Cudillero.
Cudillero
"CUDILLERO is a delightful, picturesque fishing port, squeezed so tightly into a narrow, corkscrewing valley 25km west of Aviles that none of its buildings manage to face directly out to sea. Nonetheless, the brightly coloured arcaded houses that rise, one above the other, up the steep horseshoe of cliffs that surround the port give it the feel, and appeal, of a Greek island village, and itâs usually thronged with visitors in summer." We went there in September, and although you could still find tourists around it was not too crowded.
It is incredible how the houses are built it seems like they stay on top of each other forming one building overall. if you climb up the narrow streets you'll get a wonderful view over the city and the sea
Playa de Aguilar
We also stopped for a couple of hours at the beach nearby, which is also very beautiful, but the best part is the ride down the road as you and an awesome view.
OviedoOviedo is Delicious, Exotic, Beautiful, Clean, Pleasant, Peaceful, and Kind to Pedestrians. It's as if it doesn't belong to this world, as if it could not possibly exist ... Oviedo is like a Fairy Tale ~ Woody Allen
Oviedo came first to my attention when watching Vicky Christina Barcelona, I guess this happened to many others and I found it very beautiful, but it was my sister who insisted to add it to the roadtrip list and I am so very happy I did. Oviedo surprised us all with the lively atmosphere, elegantly dressed people, the beautiful architecture, the wonderful food...but lets take it step by step
The Statues
There are a lot of Statues all around Oviedo, here some that came across my way when visiting the city. (press the small pictures for more).
The food
It was our last night in Asturias so this deserved a proper dinner. There are several places you can check out, we ended up going to Terra Astur, this place is awesome, but don't go if on a diet as it's hard to pick and you will want to try everything.
The cider
It's all about the art of pouring and it's impressive. I know everyone says you have to taste it, which I did, but I did not like it, still i would buy a bottle just to see the guys pouring it.
The ArchitectureThe local activities
We were in Oviedo on a Sunday so we had a lovely time around the city as there were traditional dances everywhere of locals dressed up in the asturian traditional costumes. Not bad to listen to the Asturias music which has a strong Irish and Scottish influence, interesting :)
Oviedo was a place that surprised us all and we will for sure come back at some point. But now it's time to move further to our next destination, La Rioja.
